Avery’s Birthday Cake Smash – RI Baby Photography

I knew that Avery’s family must have good taste when her Mommy told me that she was having an owl themed birthday party.  I think pretty much anything with an owl on it is adorable.  Just like Avery!  She was full of life and lots of smiles.  I had to work for these pictures.  I was literally chasing her around my studio.  It being the end of winter I think I’m a little out of shape, but it didn’t stop me from getting some great pictures of Avery.  I had better start training now because I’m photographing her first birthday party in a couple of weeks.  There are going to be a ton of kids for me to chase.  I’m going to break out my running shoes!

Avery was lucky enough to be the first to get her picture taken on my new spring set!  You know you want to bring in your kids to photographed in front of this.

How adorable is she!?

Time of another cake smash with a custom cake made by my smash partner, Cake-tique!

Collin’s Portrait at the Studio – RI Children Photography

What a beautiful little boy, Collin, is!  Blue eyes, brown hair and the most adorable smile.  He is also a “Mama’s boy”.  I sort of hate the term, but that’s the only way to put it.  There’s nothing wrong with loving your Mom a lot!  Collin took a little bit to warm up (despite my wonderful rendition of “Elmo’s Song”).  Even when he was comfortable Mom still had to be very close by.  I think it’s adorable.  It may also mean that Mommy is doing a pretty good job making her baby feel safe and secure.  That’s what Mommy’s do!

He was having a great time playing with my reflector.  Actually he couldn’t have picked a better place to stand!

Mommy had a secret to making Collin laugh…

So adorable!

All the kids love to look outside the window at my studio.  Especially if they like trucks.  There is a garage across the street.

Mackenzie’s First Year Portrait – RI Baby Photographer

A year ago Mackenzie was born in the middle of a huge snow storm.  Now she gets to celebrate her first birthday in the warmest January I can remember!  Mom and Dad are having a big birthday party this Saturday to celebrate.  We did two outfit changes AND a cake smash.  Mackenzie was much more interested in touching the cake than eating it.  As a matter of fact she got a chill when she took her first taste of frosting.  A literal sugar rush.  After that she wasn’t really into eating it as much as playing with it.  Eating, playing, it was still all really cute!

Baby Roman – RI Newborn Photography

A couple of weeks back I did a maternity shoot with the beautiful Aisha and handsome hubs, Dave.  At the shoot we had a chat about how Aisha was a little nervous that the baby might come late.  Apparently Dave and Aisha are late for everything so it only makes sense that their offspring would follow suit.  Baby Roman decided to start rebelling sooner than later.  He made his entrance two weeks early.  I guess he wanted to be home for Christmas!  Roman is a perfect mix of his mom and dad.  Such a handsome little man!  He was very cooperative with us and our crazy ideas.  I actually think we might have been boring him because he could hardly keep his eyes open.

Chillin’

I love this one!

Usually I hate to see wrinkles (mainly mine), but in this case they are adorable!

Stretching…

Aisha bought some cute little knitted accessories.  I love this sleep sac!

My favorite foot photo ever

It’s hard being 2 weeks old.

This antique barber chair was Dave’s father’s.

2011 Rewind :: Toddlers – RI Baby Photography

Toddler…  Oh, it’s a bad word for some people.  The terrible two’s, troublesome three’s.  Anyway you cut it this is the group that gets the most grief.  They are older and wiser.  They know what they want and they want it now!  This is the group that makes me work for it.  I have to wear many hats when photographing the toddler.  Sometimes I’m a total goof ball, running around, saying silly things and acting a fool to get some cooperation.  Sometimes it’s a marathon and I literally just chase them throwing optimal lighting situations and beautiful backgrounds out the window.  If the toddler wants to stand in front of a dumpster then I either have to make it work or wait until I can trick them into doing something else.  For the skittish toddler I am quiet and patient waiting for my moment to pounce.  Whatever it takes.  Parents have told me that I have the patience of a saint.  I think it’s that I just love kids.  You have to if you want them to be comfortable with you.  They can smell phony-ness a mile away.

I actually own one of these crazy toddler creatures.  He is the type I would have to chase around to get a nice picture.  I’m starting off this post with my two favorite pictures of him from 2011.  I can’t get enough of his hair!  I love it so much that it drives me crazy!   Next up will be the kids!
